Ferrari plans for Montreal

The podium of Fernando Alonso in China was only an illusion. It was thought that the first significant result of the Team in 2014 would launch the season of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen. But upon returning to Europe, the delay of the F14 T over its rivals was confirmed, and even in an accentuated sense, since the Rossa drivers battled with the Lotus of Romain Grosjean at the start of the test. Ferrari has started medium-term work, because the Monaco race is judged separately from the rest of the calendar. “For the races following Monaco, which are Canada, Austria, UK and so on, we are currently working very hard in Maranello to introduce a large number of updates to increase the performance level of the F14 T to close the gap with the fastest cars » explains Simone Resta, Deputy Chief Designer.

“The expectations for Monaco are very different from other races. In other words, the streets of the Principality are very specific from a technical point of view. We need to do specific set-up work related to vertical rigidity so that the driver has as much grip as possible despite the chaotic nature of the track. In order to give cars as much mechanical grip as possible, Pirelli supplies soft and super-soft tires. These compounds also heat up more easily, which is particularly useful in qualifying. »

Qualifications which will be very important, as recalled by Kimi Räikkönen who also believes that the results will arrive. “ The F14 T is getting better. We work as hard as we can. » Despite Barcelona tests shortened by an engine problem, the Finn arrived in the Principality satisfied with the work accomplished, having won on the Rock in 2005 with McLaren.
