Ferrari is in the middle of a redemption operation in Hungary. A week after the French Grand Prix and the accident Charles Leclerc, Team absolutely must resume before the summer break. And so far, everything is going well. Both drivers took the best times in both free practice sessions on Friday. Sainz was the fastest in FP1 while Leclerc set the best time in FP2. Above all, Ferrari took over the Red Bull, relegated to 4th and 9th place in EL2.

“It was a very productive day, Leclerc said on Friday evening. I changed a lot of things on the car myself. EL1 was quite tricky. In FP2 we took the right path, so I'm confident that we did the right job for Sunday. »

On the side of Carlos Sainz, confidence also reigns after Friday. “ It's certain, from FP1, I felt very comfortable. I'm very happy with the balance of the car, but obviously there are things to improve, said the Spaniard. We tried several different settings in FP2, which made us lose some confidence in the performance. But we know exactly why and for tomorrow and Sunday we think we can get back to where we were in FP1 and be a little more competitive. »

A “test day” for Ferrari before the rain

The Scuderia was very fast on a dry track at the Hungaroring… but will it be the same in the rain, forecast for the rest of the weekend? Charles Leclerc did not seem too perturbed by the weather at the end of the day on Friday. “It looks like it's going to rain tomorrow [Saturday], so we need to be on top of it. We have to put the tires in the right window, which is always a difficult thing whenever it rains. That will be our main priority, but hopefully if we can get them in the right window we will still have that advantage. »

Carlos Sainz was also cautious about Friday's hierarchy, which could be shaken up with wet conditions. But the Spaniard is still confident, happy with the data acquired during the tests. “We managed to resolve some doubts with the direction to follow throughout the weekend. I think it was a very interesting Friday. Let's call it a test day! »
