Ferrari will advance its development program on the SF1000

Even before the start of the 2020 World Championship season F1, Team Ferrari had announced its intention to only upgrade its SF1000 from the third Grand Prix in Hungary (July 19).

But given the difficulties encountered by the Italian team last weekend in Austria, despite 2nd place in Charles Leclerc, Maranello has obviously decided to advance its development program.

“The SF1000 did not live up to expectations even before the race, comments the Scuderia on this subject. For this reason, development has already been continuing at full speed for some time.

This is in the hope of bringing forward to next weekend the introduction of the aerodynamic package planned for the Hungarian Grand Prix, or, at least, some of its components.

Not that these new parts should completely close the gap to the front of the grid. But progress in terms of lap times could allow the team to move up the hierarchy and put the drivers in better condition to be able to show their talent.

In addition, it is a question of verifying that the development direction chosen is the right one, precisely because it will be possible to make a real comparison on each development. »

Sebastian Vettel widely complained the behavior of his car in the race, with several figures of speech narrowly avoided by the German pilot.

“It is not only about bringing to the track today what should be ready tomorrow, but also about accelerating the development program in preparation for the next races, admits Louis Camilleri, president of Ferrari. It's the response of a united team that rolls up its sleeves and faces problems head on, without moping around. »

To see if the developments made to the SF1000, while several teams have modified their cars since the Barcelona tests, will allow the Scuderia to regain its rank against Mercedes et Red Bull.
