The campaign for the election of the future president of the FIA is turning sour. Ari Vatanen, one of the two candidates declared to succeed Max Mosley with the Frenchman Jean Todt, does not appreciate the ways of proceeding of the current president and makes it known. The Finn sent a letter to the latter to denounce his position towards Jean Todt and his recurring accusations about his lesser abilities to lead the governing body of world motorsport.
« It is my duty to say officially that the campaign for the presidency of the FIA is not taking place in accordance with the principle of neutrality which should be the rule », affirms Vatanen who does not hesitate to brandish the threat of legal action. “ Violating this principle of neutrality during an electoral campaign with the aim of influencing the result of the election is punishable by French justice. », continues the former member of the European Parliament.
Max Mosley's reaction was not long in coming. The current President of the FIA responded by insisting that there was no “ no law that prevented an outgoing elected official from giving his point of view on the person most qualified to succeed him. » Mosley also responds point by point to each accusation from Vatanen before adding: “ I am not violating any law or legal principle by believing that you are a less qualified candidate than your opponent for the role in question? »
