Force India received a heavy fine for the incident that occurred on Sergio Pérez's Force India VJM11 during testing for the French GP at Paul-Ricard (Var). The Indian team is ordered to pay €15 as well as a suspended fine of €000 over one year after the loss of the Mexican's left rear wheel during the second session which sent him into the lead. tailed.
The stewards justified this decision by explaining that the incident did not arise from a defect in an element of the car, but that the origin of the problem came from the assembly. The latter also highlighted the dangerousness of the incident which occurred at very high speed. However, the grid place penalty was not considered useful since Force India could not have known of the problem and, therefore, asked the driver to stop the car.
The officials justified the amount of the fine by recalling that Force India was not its first attempt, citing a third incident of this nature in the last two years (and the second this season). They hope that the team will strengthen its assembly quality and control procedures.
