Force India will focus on racing strategy

Motorized stables by Mercedes Since the start of the season, they have had a clear advantage in terms of top speed over the other engines in the field. A plus, which could have allowed the two VJM07s to Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Pérez to climb into the leading pack in qualifying, but the two Indian cars failed to cross the Q2 threshold. A little disappointment given the results of the Williams for example, but the two residents of Vijay Mallya's team remain confident and are focusing in particular on strategy.

“It was a qualifying session that turned out to be a little more difficult than expected. I will start 13th, but I remain positive about our chances tomorrow because it is a track where you can enjoy everything that happens in the race, explains Sergio Pérez. We have good top speed, which will definitely be important tomorrow. I think we have already shown this year that Sunday is what matters most and I am confident we can score points and beat some of the cars in front of us. We must make the right choice in terms of strategy. It will be a choice between one and two stops here and we will need to assess which one will give us the best chance for the race. »

“I was close to the top ten, only half of a tenth which would have made the difference, but we knew since yesterday that it was going to be very close in qualifying, recalls Nico Hülkenberg who never did better than 12th on the Gilles Villeneuve track. Our position allows us to be flexible in terms of strategy. I can choose my tires at the start, and I'm quite optimistic about our race pace. The peloton is very close in terms of performance, but it should be an interesting race because it is a circuit where overtaking is possible and history has shown that anything can happen here. »

The best result for a Force India in Canada remains Paul di Resta's 7th place last year. It’s up to Hülk and Checo to do better tomorrow evening from 20 p.m. French time.
