Force India wants to do better on twisty tracks

Force India had a successful weekend at Silverstone (Great Britain) as it gained 14 points from Williams who missed the top ten for the first time this season. With 31 points scored in the last three races compared to 11 for its rival from Grove, the Indian team is only 19 points behind fourth place in the Championship.

“I am very proud of our performance at Silverstone, comments Vijay Mallya, director of Force India. This is our best result at the British GP and allows us to return to fourth place in the Championship. Our race pace is very encouraging, especially in the race. With half the season still ahead of us, I don't see what would stop us from scoring points in every race. This is what we must do to achieve our goal. »

Force India must nevertheless improve its performance on the Hungaroring circuit which will host the F1 this week-end. The team remains on a double retirement at the Hungarian Grand Prix last year.

“It’s a race we prefer to forget, adds the Force India boss. Things can only get better this year. The winding layout of the Hungaroring is the opposite of Silverstone and it will be interesting to see how we develop. We have worked hard to improve the car through low and medium speed corners. »

Sergio Pérez can still hope to progress in the hierarchy after coming back to seven points behind Valtteri Bottas. “I really enjoy the visit to Budapest. Unfortunately, this race does not yet mark the summer break unlike other years, regrets the Mexican. The track offers few overtaking opportunities and qualifying is therefore important. This is probably the second race after Monaco where grid positions matter the most. I'm expecting a tough weekend, but we can be competitive at every circuit. I haven't had much luck on this track in the past and I'm hoping the tide will turn this year. »

By securing seventh place in Great Britain, Nico Hulkenberg moved up to 11th place in the Drivers standings tied on points with Carlos Sainz Jr. “I haven't driven much on this circuit outside of F1, only in 2009 with GP2. I won the main race, remembers the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2015. It's an old school circuit: narrow and very winding. We can't relax because all the turns come one after the other and we risk a lot with each mistake. »
