Fry: Ferrari will work for 2015 in Singapore

Scuderia Ferrari has not been able to get its head above water for several years. After Stefano Domenicali, it is the turn of Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo to take the door, being replaced by Sergio Marchionne, the boss of Fiat. The results of the stable of Maranello are still disappointing despite a crew that promised to be explosive with Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen. Instead, the Italian outfit only occupies fourth place in the Constructors' Championship, being overtaken by Williams Racing.

As the halfway point of the season passes, Ferrari is aware that its title chances have become nil. While the new boss of the Prancing Horse has pointed the finger at the engine department, the team is already working to prepare for the next season and is preparing several elements to test this weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix. “At this point in the year, the team is more focused on car next year », admitted Pat Fry, the director of engineering. “Nevertheless, there is still a lot we can learn from the track. So we will install some test-specific components in preparation for next year and other developments of the F14 T, which will help us to have a better understanding. »

If the Singapore urban track will be less demanding on the mechanics than the high-speed circuits of Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) or Monza (Italy), Pat Fry is nevertheless wary of the difficult conditions. “Even though it's a night race, the temperatures remain very high. The engine and ERS cooling systems will therefore be in high demand. In addition, the choppy nature of the track will place significant constraints on the braking systems, particularly with the front brakes. »
