Fry: Conditions make everything unpredictable

The Scuderia still suffers from its F2012 poorly born and lacking performance against the other top teams. Nevertheless, Maranello still occupies the forefront thanks to the excellent management of Fernando Alonso and the particularly close fight at the forefront. With five winners in five races, a season of F1 has never been so competitive since 1983. The teams argue that tire management has become very difficult to manage, which would explain why the results of the races are completely unpredictable.

However, Pat Fry goes further by specifying that the changing conditions of the track which influence the tires too much for the teams to get used to them and try to maintain them. “It’s really unpredictable. The smallest temperature changes on the track have a major effect on tire performance. I think it was in China that this was most visible”, explains the technical director of the Scuderia. “There is also an impact depending on how pilots use them. In a classic three-stop race, a two-stop strategy can possibly be attempted if the driver is really paying close attention to his tires. But we can't afford to be aggressive with them because they deteriorate immediately. The tires are also used more in traffic than on a clear track. »
