Gasly gives up: “A difficult weekend” in Baku

It is not an ordeal that will remain in the memory of Pierre Gasly (Red Bull). The 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix saw the French give up due to a problem with the transmission shaft in full effort, while he had moved up to sixth place.

An infuriating conclusion to a weekend full of adventures. On Friday, he was sanctioned with a start from the back of the grid due to forgetting to go to the weigh-in. Then, during qualifying, he was caught red-handed with excessive fuel flow and a change in settings on the standard electronic control unit. In all, the Norman received a triple penalty!

" It's a shame, recognizes the 2 GP2016 Series champion, who prefers to see the glass half full. The whole weekend was complicated between all the penalties and having to start from the pits. I felt a lot better with the car in the last three races, so we are moving in the right direction in terms of performance.

We looked pretty competitive and we looked like we were going to score some good points. Unfortunately, we had to stop. It was a difficult weekend with everything that happened. We will retain the positive and the performance in progress. thanks also to the new specification of the Honda engine brought to Baku.

“The driveshaft problem should not penalize us in Barcelona (Spain, location of the next GP. Editor’s note). We are heading in the right direction. In terms of feeling, it’s better. We know what we need to perform well. We showed it in qualifying, we showed it in the race. There is still work to do. I think it’s going to get better and better”he concludes.

In the Drivers' championship, Pierre Gasly is tied for sixth with Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo (13 points), while Max Verstappen has 51 units.
