Gasly: “It was even better than expected”

Pierre Gasly can be satisfied with his weekend in Malaysia where he competed in his first Grand Prix in F1. While Toro Rosso was in difficulty on the Sepang track and his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr retired with a mechanical problem, the reigning GP2 Series champion reached the finish taking 14th place behind the Haas de Kevin Magnussen et Romain Grosjean.

“It will be a day I will never forget, assured Pierre Gasly. It was really a good experience, it was even better than expected. I pushed as hard as possible even though the race was very physical. My drinking system was malfunctioning, the water was coming onto my face and not into my mouth. The ordeal only became longer, but I remained focused until the end with the adrenaline. »

“I was able to stay close to Magnussen throughout the race, but I had difficulty closing the gap, added Pierre Gasly. I think I also need a little more experience with tire management. I was in difficulty at the end of the race. I also couldn't manage the blue flags well and I was losing a little time, but that will come with more training. I will see what I can improve for the next race in Japan (next weekend in Suzuka) and I leave Malaysia satisfied. »
