Clearly, Zandvoort succeeds well in Pierre Gasly. A year after his podium on Dutch soil, the Norman managed to finish the Dutch Grand Prix in the points, equaling his best result of the season with a 9th place. A position far from being a foregone conclusion: 9th on the grid, the Tricolore had much faster cars behind them on the grid, those of Carlos Sainz et Lewis Hamilton. The Frenchman, however, got off to a superb start, gaining two positions in the first corners.

If he then logically conceded two places against the Ferrari then facing the Mercedes, Pierre Gasly managed his race perfectly. After a lengthened first stint to have fresher tires at the end of the race, the No. 10 did what was necessary to come back by chaining overtakes on the outside of the first corner. Ninth in passing under the checkerboard, the Frenchman returned to his race with a big smile and the satisfaction of the work accomplished at the Canal+ microphone, whileAlpine regains 9 points lead over Williams in the Manufacturers' championship.

Pierre Gasly (Alpine), 9th in the Dutch Grand Prix : “It’s nice to resume after the summer with a great race. We really did everything that was necessary. A very good start, I knew that generally, if we have space on the outside, we manage to maintain a lot of speed. I already had that in mind and managed to find the space I needed. I think it really put us in a good position to manage the race well, the tires. There were some great fights with Lewis [Hamilton], Carlos [Sainz], Fernando [Alonso] throughout the race, so it was pretty fun in the car. Overall I felt good, so that's satisfying. »

(On overtaking on Magnussen and Albon) “From the inside, it was very hot because I didn't necessarily understand what Magnussen was doing. I don't know if he was trying to slow down to [help] Hulkenberg because he was very slow in turn 12, and even in the banking of the last corner. There were tactics, I had to let go on the straight so as not to hit him. I knew I had to pass Albon directly, so I had to take risks but throughout the race, I really felt good on this first corner, braking very late and keeping speed on the outside to overtaking quite a few cars. So there you have it, I'm very happy, two points taken, we'll have to continue working and be consistent in the next races. »

Bravo to Gasly but surprising to see the contrast between the 2 Alpine, one in the points with forceps and the other which vegetated at the back of the peloton... difference in specifications and settings between the 2 chassis or Gasly favored by the brand new management to the detriment of the starter Ocon?
