Gasly delighted after his “best qualification of the year”

For the 3nd time in a row, Pierre Gasly qualifies his Alpha Tauri higher on the grid than the driver who succeeded him at Red Bull, Alexander albon. 

The Frenchman is also invited for the 3rd time of the year in Q3 in 5 weekends of competition. At the forefront throughout the day's qualifying session at Silverstone, Gasly finally managed the 7th fastest time. A performance that he would like to credit to the work carried out by his Italian team between free practice on Friday and the day on Saturday. 

« I'm very happy, it was a fantastic qualifying session, commented the Norman. I'm really happy with the adjustments made between Friday and Saturday to improve our level of performance and sign our best qualifier of the year so far. 

We seem to be able to get the most out of our package most weekends this season. This explains our regularity in the Top 10. When McLaren Put it all together, they are faster than us. same for me Ferrari. 

Currently, we seize every opportunity, which is not the case with our direct competitors. The team is doing a great job to provide me with a car with which we can achieve the best possible results on Saturday and Sunday. 

We tried various things in Free Practice, several setting options to try to erase the limits seen last week. I wasn't very happy to tell you the truth, I didn't feel comfortable and the balance of the car wasn't ideal in my opinion. The team made the right adjustments for the qualifying session.

From Free Practice 3, I felt much better behind the wheel. The wind changed direction and modified the general balance of the car. The front end was a little more pronounced, which I like. I felt less of the understeer phenomenon

This season, as soon as we manage to progress between Friday and Saturday, we are in the game ». 

• What does Helmut think?

Gasly's performances and the comparison with Albon at Red Bull did not go unnoticed by observers. But did the Norman ensure that the intransigent Helmut Marko, who has made and unmade the destiny of the Austrian drivers for years, had noticed his fine performances?

« Helmut follows all the sessions so he is aware, replied Gasly with a smile. If you watched the qualifiers, I imagine he did too. I don't need to message him. I don't do anything special. I'm doing my job, that's all ».

If Gasly manages to maintain such a level of competitiveness, logic would dictate that his career would continue with Milton Keynes (United Kingdom). But the Rouennais has already been there, in the circumstances that we know. Is he not afraid of finding himself trapped between two waters?

« I am a competitor, I want to fight for pole position, victory and the title as I have always done during my career, swept Gasly.

But the decision is not up to me so you better call Helmut directly because I don't know what his plans are for the future (Laughs). I just do my best to land in the best car possible ». 

For the moment, the AlphaTauri is not a bad option in this area.
