Gasly encouraged by Horner: “His time will come”

Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) spent most of his time in the exhaust of his replacement at Toro Rosso Daniil Kvyat Sunday March 17 at the Australian Grand Prix Formula 1. The Frenchman narrowly missed the point for 10th place, which would have been a reward after a difficult qualification (17th).

“It was a rather complicated race, advanced the Norman at the end of the day in Melbourne. Because of the taller rear wings, I couldn't see the lights on the grille. So I had to react according to the movement of the other cars and I lost two places in this way, he reveals.

Pierre Gasly then followed an offbeat strategy, being the last man to change tires. An almost ideal tactic since he came out ahead of Daniil Kvyat, before giving up his 10th place due to fresher tires.

“Even with the expanded DRS this year, it’s super difficult to overtake here. Additionally, I picked up some debris on my front wing, which didn't help. I spent the rest of the test five tenths behind the car in front of me, my tires were slipping, I couldn't pass it. »

His boss Christian horner fully supports the Frenchman. “He recovered well after a difficult Saturday. He fought hard. He was very competitive on this track where it is difficult to overtake. Too bad he didn't get any points but his time will come. » Perhaps from Bahrain, the circuit which saw him finish at the foot of the podium with his modest Toro Rosso in 2018?

“It’s a race that I enjoy, recognizes Pierre Gasly, we saw that the car was competitive, so we will continue to work and push hard in two weeks. »
