The French driver is definitely very comfortable on the Imola track, located barely fifteen kilometers from the Faenza factory.

Gasly encouraged by one of AlphaTauri's 'best Fridays'

If, as everyone knows, no one is a prophet in his country, Alpha Tauri showed great arrangements this Friday for his home meeting in Emilia-Romagna.

Author of the 5th best time in Free Practice 1 in the morning, 0”324 from the reference established by Valtteri Bottas, Pierre Gasly progressed to 3rd place in the afternoon, 78 thousandths behind the time of the Mercedes from the Finn.

Discreet in EL1, his Japanese teammate Yuki tsunoda rose to 7th position during EL2, further confirming the good performance of this decidedly well-born AT02.

« It was one of our best Fridays, commented the Norman on Friday evening. We were 5th this morning in FP1, 3rd this afternoon, not very far from the Mercedes. It was a very good day. I felt really good in the car. From the first lap, I felt like I could attack.

We have great potential. I hope that we will be able to unlock a little more performance in qualifying to get a good place on the grid on Sunday.

However, we will try to remain calm and focused on our own objectives because we know that Mercedes has a much more competitive car than us. They have some room given that they signed their best round with the Mediums. We are looking to improve our car and get the best of our main rivals which are Ferrari et McLarenOr Alpine ».

Gasly equaled his best career qualifying result last year on the same Imola track by taking 4th place on the grid. The Rouennais, however, was unable to complete the race due to an engine problem. The winner of the Imola GP is naturally aiming for a happier outcome this weekend in his adopted homeland.
