At Alpine, first there was the Alonso saga, then the saga Piastres and now we are in the saga gasly. Since the final decision of the FIA Contract Recognition Bureau (CRB) concerning the young Australian, the Dieppe brand and the Rouen native have been circling each other. It's no longer a secret: the Franco-British team wants the driver ofAlpha Tauri to replace Fernando Alonso in 2023.

At the moment, the only blocking point for such a transfer is on the side of the Faenza structure. Franz Tost's stable, under the control of Red Bull, will not let go of Pierre Gasly unless he has found a replacement. If the Colton Herta track was annihilated by the FIA, due to lack of a Super License, AlphaTauri could set its sights on Nyck de Vries, with whom an agreement on the form would have been reached.

The main person concerned, Pierre Gasly, declared that for the moment, the situation is “out of my control” at the microphone of Sky Sports F1. The Frenchman, who is actually still under contract with AlphaTauri for 2023, also has an exit door if an interesting offer were to arrive from another team, sportingly and financially speaking. “These guys [AlphaTauri] gave me my first win and my first chance in Formula 1. That doesn't mean I'm going to stay there all my life, because my ambitions in Formula 1 are to fight at the front, and that's what I want.", reaffirmed the Norman pilot.

“In my situation, there are only positive points” believes Gasly

If the situation evolves quite slowly, things could speed up after the test carried out by Alpine at the Hungaroring, where three drivers (Giovinazzi, Doohan and De Vries) will each have one day of driving. AlphaTauri could also use its tests to make its final choice in order to support Yuki tsunoda in 2023. As for Pierre Gasly, the Frenchman is patient, but affirms that he would not mind spending an additional season with the Italian team. “I have been at AlphaTauri for five years. We'll see if I do another year there, but for now, that's the plan. If that's what happens, I'll give 110% to this team. »

Asked about the state of negotiations between him, Alpine and AlphaTauri, the Norman maintains the suspense. “There are a couple of things that need to be addressed before we talk any further about this situation. In my situation, there are only positives. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks. »
