Very calm day in the garage Alpha Tauri, on the side of car no. 10. At the end of the first two free practice sessions for the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, Pierre Gasly only completed 22 laps. A low total which also explains his ranking over the two sessions (16th in EL1, 19th in EL2). Speaking to Canal + after the second session, the Frenchman confided that he had been forced to drive less because of his tires. “We damaged our tires this morning and we only had a set of intermediate compounds, so there was no point in riding them this afternoon, explained the Norman. We tried but it was just impossible, so we didn't do much today. Tomorrow there will be different conditions and we hope for a return to normal. »

“I would rather it rain for the rest of the weekend” admits Gasly

The AlphaTauri driver, who returns to a circuit he knows well having driven there in Super Formula and three times in F1, do not be alarmed. On the contrary, Pierre Gasly hopes to find the same weather conditions for the rest of the Japanese weekend. “We know it’s more complicated [in the dry]. Getting closer to the top 10 in the dry is not easy, but not impossible. In the rain, generally, it's better. Personally, I would prefer it to rain for the rest of the weekend. Tomorrow I think it should be dry. On Sunday there is a chance of rain, but it is quite slight. » The Frenchman remains in the points in 3 races over the last 4 Grands Prix, and intends to continue his momentum.

On Honda land, the AlphaTauri team is also scrutinized and supported by many fans in the stands. The Frenchman is also very popular in Japan, thanks to his season in Super Formula in 2017. “It’s additional motivation. It’s a track that is very special as a Honda driver in Japan. It's always a unique feeling. We have a lot of support, there are all the “bosses” from Honda who are present. We want to do very well. In the dry, as we saw recently, this kind of track where you need a lot of support is a bit complicated for us. But we will try to do well and play for a top 10 if possible. »

Sure, as a good Norman, he likes the rain!! If this makes it possible to erase the shortcomings of the AT03 and the team does not screw up like in Singapore, the points are achievable
