Are better days ahead? Alpha Tauri ? In any case, that’s what it says Pierre Gasly. Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Frenchman returned to the new developments brought by his team in France. If the final result was not as expected (12th after failed qualifications), the Norman is expecting a very studious Hungarian weekend.

“Here we will look for confirmation that our package is working. We need to understand the operating window, to extract maximum performance, declared the French pilot. It would have been more worrying if the developments had shown zero signs of performance. On Friday, the rhythm was there. We have some ideas on what we want to try during free practice. It takes time for us to understand these new pieces. »

On the Paul-Ricard circuit, AlphaTauri was counting on its new package to get back into the game and score new points. The Friday test day showed great promise before experiencing more complicated qualifying and a race. The Italian team was not in the game at Castellet and signed a fourth consecutive goalless result.

“There are only two tenths between 8th and 16th place” believes Gasly

Nothing to worry about Pierre Gasly, who has renewed his complete confidence in his team. “I am 100% optimistic. We knew at the start of the year that this season was going to be a development race. New regulations, new cars. The teams will develop their cars throughout the year. It doesn't matter how you start: what's important is to have an upward trajectory throughout the season. »

According to the native of Rouen, the rebounds which affected the AT03 at the start of the season slowed down the development of the car. “I think we started in a decent position, then we fell back because of the problems we encountered with porpoise in particular. But from now on, we absolutely want to bring performance. » In Hungary, on a circuit that is more winding than in France and which should suit the AlphaTauri better, Gasly hopes that he will be able to return to the points zone. “When you see how tight the middle of the grid is, if you lose a little bit of speed you end up behind. There are only two tenths between 8th and 16th place, so we have to make sure we maximize what we have. »
