Gasly happy to have taken the right car

Between Carlos Sainz, sixth, and Esteban Ocon, thirteenth, a real train formed at the end of the race in Barcelona on Sunday. Right in the middle of this TGV was Pierre Gasly in its Alpha Tauri. The Frenchman, who started tenth, took a ninth place in the final and a third weekend in the points this season.

Gasly was notably able to benefit from an excellent start. “I managed to pass Charles (Leclerc) and Lando (Norris) at the first corner which propelled me into eighth position. »

Behind, the Frenchman had to deal with traffic jams. “ I think our strategy was excellent. But after my stop I found myself stuck behind Magnussen et Ricciardo who were trying the one-stop strategy. During all these laps I lost four to five seconds. »

Later, the car train made DRS usable for everyone and therefore ineffective. “We weren't able to use the soft tires as much as possible, which is a bit of a shame. All that cost us at least seventh place. »

Gasly prefers to remember the positive. AlphaTauri regularly succeeds in gaining points. “I think we can bring a lot of things back from Barcelona, ​​which is a difficult track for cars. It was cool to be in the mix with the McLaren during most of the race. We can be happy with our result today. »

In the championship, Gasly also remains in the right car in the middle of the grid, close to Esteban Ocon and Sebastian Vettel.
