Gasly: “It was impossible to do better”

Pierre Gasly stood out again at the Hungarian GP. After securing sixth place on the Hungaroring grid in rainy conditions, the driver Toro Rosso retained his position at the finish after having notably been able to distance Kevin Magnussen.

“My start wasn't great, but I was able to resist. We had done very good qualifying and I knew it was going to be complicated in the race because the Renault and Haas were very fast, but it worked. This result is all the more satisfactory as it falls just before the holidays”, explained the 2016 GP2 Series champion.

“Kevin didn't put pressure on me, but the car performed very well. I just attacked and was able to widen the gap. I think I had a lead of up to ten seconds and I maintained this gap for 40 laps. It felt like a solo race, but it took a lot of work,” also clarified the Frenchman.

Pierre Gasly remains aware that he did not have the potential to fight against the top teams even if he had managed to take 4th place in Bahrain and 7th in Monaco.

“We knew it was impossible to do better. I think I was the only one in Group B not to have taken a turn. I'm even happier that these opportunities come two or three times a season with Toro Rosso.", he admitted.

Pierre Gasly now occupies 13th place in the Championship with 5 points ahead of Romain Grosjean (Haas). His teammate Brendon Hartley still only has 2 units after failing to reach the Top 10.
