A driver can rarely blame bad luck to explain a poor performance. Yet, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) has every reason in the world to describe his retirement at the Miami Grand Prix (Florida) in this way.

The French driver was sailing in the second half of the top 10 from the start, and maximizing the potential of his car in the peloton, far in front of his teammate Yuki tsunoda. Alas, that was without a suicidal attack from the veteran of the paddocks, Fernando Alonso (Alpine) at the first turn.

The two competitors collided, which caused the loss of a place for the Norman and a five-second penalty for the double world champion. Formula 1 (9e). “Fernando hit me and broke the car, declared Pierre Gasly at the microphone of Canal+. Unfortunately, it was undrivable after that. I tried to complete another lap, and I was going to pit then only to retire anyway. »

It was exactly on this lap that another, more violent collision took place. In distress with his damaged mount, Pierre Gasly wanted to let Lando Norris (McLaren) but the two cars touched each other:

“I turn right to avoid Norris and we touch,” continues the Frenchman. It's a shame because we were having a good race until Fernando touched me. I could see that he was very, very far away when braking. What is certain is that it ruined my race, I was fighting for seventh position. This is not the way I wanted to finish a Grand Prix which had started well. »

At the Championship F1, Pierre Gasly remains stuck at six points and is in 13th place.
