Gasly: “I really want to do better at home”

While France is hosting its first Grand Prix in a decade, the French were not successful in qualifying at Paul-Ricard. Pierre Gasly failed in Q2 in 14th place, finishing six thousandths behind Sergio Pérez (Force India).

“It’s really incredible to ride here. There are many more French flags, we feel more supported, it gives energy, explained the pilot Toro Rosso on Canal +. We struggled during qualifying, but I intend to beat and improve this 14th position on the grid because I really want to do better at home. I remain optimistic because we seemed to perform quite well with the tires on the long runs. »

Pierre Gasly will have the opportunity to use his experience of the track where he played in the French F4 Championship and in Formula Renault 2.0, but the French driver insisted on the fact that riding on a F1 completely changed the outlook.

“I rediscovered this circuit with the speeds with which we go through the turns, explained the rookie. I have already won here in the minor disciplines, but it will be much more complicated to do the same tomorrow. »

Pierre Gasly is in any case better off than his teammate Brendon Hartley who only took 17th position and who will have to start from the back of the grid after receiving a penalty.
