Gasly doesn’t understand AlphaTauri’s strategy: “We didn’t need to risk anything”

missed opportunity for Pierre Gasly and to Alpha Tauri. The Frenchman lost big during the Singapore Grand Prix. In the running to achieve his best performance since Baku, he was unable to achieve his good starting position due to an overly daring strategy on the part of the Italian team. Well placed in 7th place, the Faenza team then decided to be the first (after Russell) to try the slick bet with Gasly. A too hasty change which caused the Norman to lose several seconds. Combined with the poor timing of the safety car, the AlphaTauri driver was relegated to 10th place. A meager little point that is not enough to satisfy his frustration.

“I am extremely disappointed because we made the start of the race that we should have made. We manage to keep our position, we knew that we did not have the performance to get the Alpine and McLaren, but I was in 7th position. Everything was going well and I don't understand why we took the risk of putting slicks so early, confided Pierre Gasly to Canal + at the end of the Grand Prix. We had both Aston Martin behind us, we didn't need to risk anything. We were overtaken by four cars, so I'm obviously extremely disappointed. »

Bad operation for Gasly and AlphaTauri in the championship

This poor operation is also reflected in the championship, since AlphaTauri now finds itself 9th and penultimate in the manufacturers' standings. An extremely tight back of the pack, since Aston Martin (7th), Haas (8th) and AlphaTauri (9th) are only three points apart. “It costs us a lot of points in the championship, it’s a very bad operation. There wasn't really any dialogue with the team. At that moment, it was quite clear to me that we shouldn't stop, unfortunately we did, lamented Pierre Gasly. Today, we don't even deserve to score points. They [Aston Martin] were smarter than us, they made the right choices, they had the same information as us. We have to be objective: today was not a good race on our side, we will have to understand why and above all, communicate a lot more. »

Looks like it's time for GASLY to leave the Red Bull fold and join Alpine ... which did not stand out at all for its reliability this weekend!
