Would the happiest Frenchman in the heart of the Austrian hills be Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) ? The Rouennais in any case only had happy words to say after his return to school concluded in seventh place on the Red Bull ring.
“Coming back to racing after such a long wait is an incredible feeling, and I think we started the season with an exciting race. If someone had told me that I would have finished seventh, I would have signed with both hands! »
7th for RACE 1 of 2020!!
Super happy to bring the first points to the team for our first race as @ AlphaTauriF1 ! We knew it would be challenging, but we pushed til the end, kept it clean and brought back 6 important points. After a difficult start to the meeting (12th time in qualifying), Pierre Gasly was delighted to see that the gap with the opposing teams was not as significant as expected. “We knew that the Grand Prix was going to be a challenge with the Renault, McLaren and Racing Point performed very well, but I had some great fights on the track and I stayed out of trouble. »
The Technical Director of AlphaTauri (ex-Toro Rosso), Jody Egginton, recognizes that progress must be made on the AT01. “The team present on site as well as at the factory (in Italy) worked very well and this result is to their credit. We have work to do on our package to improve it, but the basis is good and developments are underway », explains the Englishman.
