Gasly: “We weren’t very lucky”

Pierre Gasly had no success last weekend at the German GP. Starting in 4th place on the grid, the Frenchman, like his teammate, Max Verstappen, fell in the rankings following a bad start.

“So much happened that it was a bit of a lottery, he commented. The race was decided on bets at pit level and on the choice of tires to use. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. We weren't very lucky in this game, but it's especially not being at the finish that is the hardest. We could have scored big points. It’s a shame because it would have been good and I have a habit of seizing such opportunities. »

“We stayed on the grid when the lights went out. I lost a lot of places again after pitting. My steering was crooked for 3/4 of the race. We faced a lot of things but we managed by staying on the track while many drivers like Lewis (Hamilton) or Charles (Leclerc) were trapped. »

The numerous racing circumstances subsequently favored the Dutchman who went on to achieve his second success of the season after Austria, while the French driver retired following contact with Alexander albon (Toro Rosso) at the end of the race while he was in 6th place.

“We had been neck and neck for two laps. It was already a little hot at the exit of turn 6. I moved at the same time as him coming out of the hairpin. The front wing was damaged and I had a puncture on the left front tire., he added.

Pierre Gasly will be able to turn the page this weekend with the Hungarian GP where he had good performances last year.

“I feel comfortable in Budapest, I took 6th place in qualifying last year and I got the same result at the finish, he recalled. We have shown a lot of positive things with the team over the last few weekends and I hope to make that happen next weekend. »
