Gasly looks back on his broken suspension in EL2

gasly veered a little wide at Turn 9 and found itself on the yellow curbs located on the outside and particularly brittle for the mechanics.

« The curbs are aggressive here and make the circuit complicated for the cars, said the Norman whose misadventure resulted in a red flag for several minutes. I was at 230 km/h, it was quite impressive from the inside because I no longer had control and could no longer steer.

We damaged quite a few front wings because they rubbed on the kerbs. There, we could see the limits of our car. We may not have suspensions as strong as the other teams but it’s performance. It's difficult to find the right balance. We will play with the limits in qualifying but we will have to be careful because we saw today that it could cost us dearly.

In any case, the mechanics did a great job. In 30 minutes they repaired the car and changed the suspension and I was able to leave in the last minutes of the session. In the end we didn't waste much time ».

Despite this incident, Gasly still had a smile on his face at the end of a day concluded with two entries in the Top 10 in qualifying. The former GP2 Series champion, however, expects a tough fight to advance to Q3 on Saturday.

« We know that it will be very close and that our opponents tend to unlock more engine power in qualifying., added Gasly who runs on Honda. It will be complicated to be in the top 10 but we will try to get closer. He missed 3-4 tenths at Paul Ricard, I hope we can get closer. It's up to us to work well this evening ».
