Gasly: “Surprising to see the Ferraris at this level”
Pierre Gasly started the first weekend of the 2020 season of F1 on the right foot. The resident ofAlpha Tauri obtained 12th place, more than a tenth ahead of his teammate Daniil Kvyat. The 2016 GP2 Series champion thus seems to have fulfilled the first part of the contract given the performance of the AT01.
“We are really satisfied because we knew it would be complicated after the tests, confided the 24-year-old Frenchman on Canal+. We have both cars in Q2 being close to Charles (Leclerc) and Hag. This is our place on the grid and we are still a little short of aiming for the Top 10.”

Beyond his result, it is his direct opponents who surprised Pierre Gasly since he will start just behind Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari).
“It’s surprising to see (the Ferraris) at this level, he admitted. Some teams like Racing Point, Renault ou McLaren have made good progress and we are behind them. We will therefore have to work on the coming weeks. We will have developments that will happen to help us get closer to the Top 10. We will need a good start and we will have the choice of strategy. I hope we make the right choices because a lot of things can still happen. »
Pierre Gasly finished in 7th place last year in the Red Bull Ring, but the Frenchman was still playing in the first team of the Red Bull.
