Gasly “surprised” that his return to Red Bull was not considered

Disappointed, no. But surprised, yes. Pierre Gasly confided from Emilia-Romagna (Italy) that he had known for several weeks that his future would take shape with Alpha Tauri in 2021, and not on the side of Red Bull Racing where his brief and failed stint in 2019 has visibly left its mark.

The Austrian industry has always prided itself on rewarding talent based on merit. Given the Frenchman's performances this season, his victory at Monza of course but also his XXL performances behind the top teams, a return to Milton Keynes would not have been usurped. Especially since his replacement Alexander albon experiences the worst difficulties in the world to exist alongside Max Verstappen. The story repeats itself.

However, the leaders of Red Bull have never suggested that such a comeback was part of their plans.

« I am not disappointed, reacted Gasly about his non-promotion in the parent company. I'm just surprised. In 14 years of existence for this team, Seb (Hag) won a race under Toro Rosso colors and was subsequently promoted to Red Bull where he won 4 world titles ».

Asked whether the leaders of the Austrian sector, starting with the inflexible and uncompromising Dr Helmut Marko, had given him explanations, Gasly did not want to speak.

« They have their strategy, if you want a better answer, it's better to ask them directly, tried to sweep away the Norman. I've known for a while that I'm going to continue with this team.

I'm not disappointed like I said. I am very happy to continue with AlphaTauri because I have the opportunity to showcase my potential and my peak speed ».

A little later in the day, Christian Horner was more talkative, explaining that AlphaTauri had higher ambitions than at the time Toro Rosso, with Gasly as the cornerstone of these new objectives.

This is ultimately rather good because the Frenchman wants to endorse “ more responsibilities » at AlphaTauri by helping the Faenza team to develop.
