Forced to abandon in Austin two weeks ago, Pierre Gasly is counting on the Mexico Grand Prix to get back into the final stretch of the season. And after a first day of driving, the Habs already seem satisfied with the performance of their AT02.

Consistent as he has been since the start of the 2021 campaign, the Norman was able to place 5th in EL1 this Friday before finishing just outside the Top 5 during the second session on the tarmac at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Enough to give him motivation for the rest of the weekend and in particular the qualifications this Saturday.

« I must admit that I am very happy with this first day, he confided after FP2. We finished both sessions in the Top 6 and there are a lot of positives with the car so far."

Enchanted by the pace displayed by his AT02, Pierre Gasly wants more and hopes to be able to get closer to the front car during today's qualifying session in Mexico. “ I think the car can be even more efficient tomorrow (Saturday), continues the pilot Alpha Tauri. The track is very slippery which is not pleasant but we remain competitive so I am delighted. I had good feelings with the tires ahead of the race. We know that the track is not abrasive with the tough guys like it was in Austin. We are happy with the long stints completed which we now have to analyze for Sunday."

In Mexico, Pierre Gasly will have to do all of AlphaTauri's work since his teammate Yuki tsunoda, 11th and 8th Friday, will start from the back of the grid due to an engine penalty.
