Gasly: ​​“A little faster than last week”

Pierre Gasly had a studious introduction to the Red Bull Ring by winning the 8th time in Free Practice 1 of the Styrian Grand Prix, then the 11th time in EL2, which could determine the starting grid on Sunday depending on the weather conditions.

« It was a positive first day, reported Gasly. We tested different options in FP1 to try to extract more performance and I think we found some good tricks. I feel like I can maintain a little more speed and lean more on the front end. We are a little faster than last week. 

We got closer to the cars in front but we are missing a little compared to Renault and McLaren. Racing Point is almost a top team now (laughs).” 

12th on the grid for the Austrian GP last Sunday, Gasly believes thatAlpha Tauri has the potential to get into Q3 but he would not be disappointed if by chance the EL2 rankings were to determine the starting order. 

« I wouldn't mind starting from 11th place, confided the Rouennais. If the qualifying session takes place, we will obviously try to aim for Q3 but for the moment we are more or less in our place in the hierarchy ». 

Remember that the 11th place on the grid is the first offering a choice of free tires at the start, the first 10 having to start with the rubber used in Q2.
