Gasly: “A good basis for work for the future”

Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) remained discreet on this first day of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Friday April 26 in Baku. The Frenchman only signed the ninth fastest time during Free Practice 2 at the end of the afternoon, while his teammate Max Verstappen was ranked fourth. Four tenths separated the two colleagues.

“I would have liked to have been able to run in FP1 but we managed to complete our program in FP2 by carrying out a lot of tests, positive the Norman. We found good directions for the rest of the weekend. We are quite happy with our car in racing configuration. I felt more comfortable behind the wheel so that's positive. We have a good basis to work from for the rest of the weekend. »

The number 10 wearer knows the work areas. « When braking, it was a little tight at times. I shot straight at one point because I was attacking too much. I think we have interesting potential if we can bring all the ingredients together. »

However, there remains a frustration of not having been able to collect all the data necessary to prepare for the qualifications. “The second free session was quite intense after the first one was abandoned. We are quite happy with our performance on the long runs on gasoline. The simulations on a flying lap were a little more disjointed. I couldn't put it all together.

The car is constantly improving. THE Ferrari look very fast today, faster at the moment but we'll see how it goes in qualifying. » As for the evolution of its Honda engine block, Pierre Gasly has no negative criticism to make. “Everything is fine for now. I would have liked to see more while driving in FP1 but so far it's positive. »
