Gasly: “A positive first day”

Pierre Gasly made his debut as a regular driver with Toro Rosso by participating in the Malaysian GP tests where he replaced Daniil Kvyat for at least two races. The resident of Red Bull Junior Team usually engaged with the Team Le Mans in Super Formula where he plays the title quickly showed himself in the rhythm on the STR12 despite the mixed conditions since he each time finished ahead of his teammate, Sean Gelael having replaced Carlos Sainz Jr in EL1.

“This day has been fantastic, comments Pierre Gasly. It’s a very special moment with my debut as a pilot of F1, my first free tests... It was a very emotional moment when I left the garage this morning. Despite my joy, I was able to remain fully focused on working with the team, trying to be as competitive and professional as possible from the very beginning. »

The new Toro Rosso recruit finished ninth in FP1 before taking 15th in the second session ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr.

“I think it’s a positive first day. The conditions were difficult this morning but I did well in the rain. In FP2, I continued to learn by getting used to the car and the procedures. I feel more and more comfortable, every lap. I obviously still need time to gain further confidence, but we are progressing step by step. We're going to work hard tonight, but I can't wait to get back behind the wheel tomorrow." adds Pierre Gasly.
