George Russell is back on pole position. For the third time this season after Canada and Great Britain, and for the fourth time in his career, the driver Mercedes posted the fastest time in a qualifying session this Saturday in Las Vegas, confirming the Silver Arrows' frenetic pace on the Strip.
« It's amazing to be back in pole position, George Russell rejoiced after the session. We were so fast this weekend, but I was able to find a little extra on the lap that counts in Q3. I had some hot moments on my first attempt. I'm so happy. We had to dive in some places, but it's a nice surprise. »
The driver of the No. 63 insisted to his team to be the last on the track, even if it meant exposing himself to a potential interruption which would have caused him to abort his final attempt. Sometimes you have to take risks, smiled the poleman. I was confident that by putting in a clean lap I could at least secure the front row. We've had some good qualifying recently, but we need to back it up with a good result. »
George Russell will start the Las Vegas Grand Prix from pole position ahead of Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and a surprising Pierre Gasly (Alpine). The race will start at 7am (French time) this Sunday. The Grand Prix will be followed live with commentary on AUTOhebdo.fr.
