George Russell: “I’m disgusted”

Points were possible for George Russell and Williams this sunday at Imola. While in the running to score important points in the Manufacturers' standings, the Briton made a mistake behind the safety car, ruining his hopes.

« I knew with the guys behind me having new tires while mine were worn out, I had to be super aggressive to have a chance of scoring a point, admits Russell. I came out of the corner and the tires were too cold and I just lost the car, and I was already in the wall.

Don't make stupid mistakes like this [to score points], also underlined the resident of the Grove stable in the media zone.

I'm disgusted and I'm really sorry for the team. Up until then we were having an incredible race, we were attacking very hard every lap and the pace was good. There are no excuses, I have to learn lessons and come back stronger next time. »

Double penalty for Williams, Nicholas latifi fails in 11th place after finishing in the exhausts of Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) at the end of the race. “He made a mistake in the chicane on the last lap which gave me the opportunity to use DRS, comments the Canadian on this point.

We seemed to have a pretty big straight-line speed advantage over the Alfa Romeo this weekend, so with one more lap I might have been able to pass him for 10th. It's a bit disappointing, but the overall pace today was encouraging. »
