Gerard Lopez ready to buy Lotus

The name Lotus in F1 has not finished making people talk about him. After the legal setbacks between Tony Fernandes and Group Lotus, the matter seemed to be resolved with the resumption of the name and colors of the brand by enstone. However, DRB-Hicom Berhad, the new owner of the Malaysian company that owns the British brand, has hinted that it may soon sell the brand. Gerard Lopez, the president of Genii Capital which took over the Enstone team, would be ready to buy the English brand if the offer was interesting.

“This manufacturer is historic, we want to keep this name”, assures Gerard Lopez. “We will never call our team Genii F1 Team or anything like that. We could come up with a new name but being associated with a brand like Lotus is an economic advantage and I think it offers more meaning. If we think there is a way for the manufacturer to be bought, we will obviously be interested. We wear the name of this manufacturer on our cars, there is an emotional attachment. »
