Giedo van der Garde still hopes for a Caterham drive

Giedo van der Garde still hopes to be Charles Pic's teammate at Caterham for the 2013 season. The Dutchman, third driver in Tony Fernandes' team, has appeared regularly this season during the first free practice session on Friday. Able to bring funds to the team, his name has often been mentioned for next season. But the situation changed during the Brazilian Grand Prix, thanks to Vitaly Petrov's eleventh place. With this result, Caterham recovered at the last minute the lucrative tenth place in the Constructors' championship.

So will the team reward Vitaly Petrov for his good performance or will it take advantage of these additional funds to keep Heikki Kovalainen, or even to hire another non-winning driver? One thing is certain, additional funds from Giedo van der Garde no longer appear to be a priority. Therefore, the Dutch driver is waiting. “We had hoped that the situation would become clearer last week, but Caterham postponed their decision,” the pilot told the Dutch magazine Formula 1. “There is nothing we can do but wait and see. If all goes well, we will be fixed within two weeks.”
