Dutchman Giedo van der Garde has announced he will not drive in Australia after an agreement reached with Sauber.

Giedo van der Garde will not drive in Australia

An arrangement was finally found in Australia between Giedo van der Garde and the Sauber team. The Dutch pilot announced that he waived his right to race in Australia after negotiations started yesterday.

“In the interest of motorsport, and the F1 in particular, I have decided to waive my legal rights to race this weekend at the Melbourne Grand Prix, van der Garde said in a statement. As a passionate racing driver, this decision was very difficult for me. However, I also want to respect the interest of the FIA, Sauber Motorsport, as well as Nasr and Ericsson. My managers will continue talks with Sauber early next week to find a mutually acceptable solution to the current situation. I am confident that such a solution will be found and I will inform the media once it is done. »

Giedo van der Garde initially had won his legal action, then saw the first decision upheld on appeal. It remains to be seen how the problem will be definitively resolved in the coming days.
