Giovinazzi gets seven free practice sessions

Reserve pilot Ferrari, Antonio Giovinazzi has already driven at Fiorano for the Italian manufacturer with old single-seaters. He was called by Sauber to replace Pascal Wehrlein for the first winter tests and for the first two Grand Prix of the season. The 2 GP2016 vice-champion is preparing to discover a third team.

« In this year already full of great opportunities, I am proud to have new ones with Haas F1 Team, comments the Italian. Being the third driver for the Scuderia is obviously the place to be, and getting these free practice sessions with Haas F1 Team will keep me in shape. »

In the absence of a seat in another category, such as Pierre Gasly in SuperFormula, Giovinazzi will have seven FP1s to familiarize himself with the Haas car. He will be at the wheel of the VF-17 of Kevin Magnussen six times starting at the British Grand Prix, and he will take the place of Romain Grosjean in Mexico.

« Antonio Giovinazzi has gained some F1 experience from his two races for Sauber, adds Günther Steiner.

« Ferrari holds him in high esteem and he had a very good season last year in Formula 2 (GP2 Series at the time. Editor’s note.). It's a good opportunity for him and we're happy to provide it. I would also like to thank Kevin and Romain who generously lend their cars to Antonio."
