Giovinazzi to replace Wehrlein at Chinese GP

Antonio Giovinazzi will replace Pascal Wehrlein again at Sauber F1 Team for the Chinese GP contested this Sunday April 9 in Shanghai. The Italian has already had to hastily replace the 2015 champion of DTM last month in Melbourne, the German not feeling physically capable of covering a race after his accident last January at the Race of Champions in Miami (Florida).

“The most important thing for me is to work intensively to ensure I am 100% fit as soon as possible, commented Pascal Wehrlein. I will then be well prepared for my first Grand Prix with Sauber F1 Team. I hope it will be for Bahrain (April 16) but, if not, I will take the necessary time until Russia (April 30) to make sure I am ready. »

Antonio Giovinazzi took 12th place at the Australian Grand Prix and became the first Italian since Vitantonio Liuzzi and Jarno Trulli in 2011 to compete in F1.

Toto wolff supports Wehrlein

Toto Wolff, executive chairman of Mercedes Motorsport, gave its support to the protégé of the star manufacturer.

“I feel sorry for Pascal because he had some real bad luck. I was impressed by his maturity when he warned Sauber that he would not be able to perform to the level required in Melbourne. This requires courage and altruism and it brings him real credit with the team. He must now get back into shape and come back performing well. I'm sure he'll prove he's the same when he gets back in the car.", said Toto Wolff.
