« On paper, this is one of the most difficult tracks for us ". Lucid, Charles Leclerc has not forgotten the complicated weekend experienced by his team during the last Grand Prix at Monza. On one of the fastest tracks of the season, the Team is aware that it will be difficult to fight for a podium. “ This year it will be a little more difficult, but we have made some progress compared to last year », continues the Monegasque. The reason ? The presence of long straight lines requiring great power from the engines.

Mattia Binotto, the boss of the Ferrari team, shares the opinion of his winning driver at Monza in 2019. “ There is always a motor disadvantage that we will pay for in a straight line “, he admits. However, he too is optimistic and does not think that his team will repeat the poor results of last year. “ We are going to Monza with the desire to do well, indicates the main team of the Reds. I think we can prepare well. With the aerodynamic package we have, we will definitely do better than last year ».

Ferrari hopes to benefit from sprint qualifying

With a new weekend contested in the sprint format, Charles Leclerc intends to play his luck to the fullest. Although he is aware that it will be difficult to aim for victory on a regular basis this Sunday, the Ferrari driver is banking heavily on the sprint race. “ It’s a weekend where we have sprint qualifying… so a different format. I hope we can enjoy it ».

The Monegasque savors this new format, much less “ boring » than the usual pattern. “ Normally Friday is enough boring, he emphasizes. We have two free practice sessions, not much is happening. Now we have another little race, which is exciting with another start ».

The first qualifying session will take place this Friday at 18 p.m. to determine the starting grid for the sprint race, which will take place the next day at 16:30 p.m. The start of the Grand Prix will be given on Sunday at 15 p.m.
