Turkish GP: The government has the cards in hand

The FIA World Council has moved the German Grand Prix to July 7 in order to insert a European event into the calendar for the 2013 season. Since the New Jersey event was postponed to 2014, the FOM has been looking for a Grand Prix to get a 20-race season. Turkey has topped the list of replacement candidates since the Turkish Motor Sport Federation announced it had received the approval of FOM chief Bernie Ecclestone. The response from the Turkish government is awaited to finalize the project.

“The Turkish Federation is doing everything possible to receive the events of F1, contested until now seven times in our country (from 2005 to 2011), on the track of Istanbul Park », commented Demire Berberoglu, President of the Federation, in a press release. “Everyone knows that to guarantee our presence on the calendar for 2013 and subsequent years, we need a guarantee and approval of the budget at government level. This will develop according to the decision of the Prime Minister. »
