Japanese GP: Kobayashi aims for the podium

Kamui Kobayashi had already distinguished himself by setting the second time in the qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps. But this time it was at home that the Japanese delivered a magnificent performance. Fourth in qualifying, the Sauber driver will finally start from third place on the starting grid following Jenson Button's penalty.

« I am very happy, because today I did everything I could, He explains. I lost a little time on my last lap because of the yellow flags. I want to thank the team for the progress we have made with the car since yesterday. We had some difficulties with the new parts, but we managed to overcome that. After a few modifications to the settings, the car gained momentum. From where I start, I have a chance of finishing in the top three. Sign my first podium in F1 on my land, it would be a dream. For now, the priority is to get off to a good start. I hope to have better luck than at Spa. »

For his part, Sergio Pérez was rather satisfied with his sixth time in qualifying, even if he was also slowed down by the yellow flags waved following Kimi Räikkönen's spin. “ My last lap in Q3 was not perfect, He explains. However, I am happy for the team which achieved a magnificent result in qualifying. They worked really well, because we were in difficulty yesterday. Tomorrow I think we can fight for the podium. »
