Mark Webber missed pole by just over two tenths against his teammate Sebastian Vettel, but the Australian still made an impression by completing a 100% first line Red Bull ahead of Jenson Button, who will have to move back five places on the grid for having changed gearboxes. Like the pole-sitter, the second driver of the Austrian team was satisfied with the performances of his car and hopes to achieve a good result tomorrow which would notably help his team in the Manufacturers' Championship.
“It was a pretty solid session, comments Mark Webber who has never won at Suzuka. We knew that the challenge was going to be more and more difficult until Q3 but I can tell you that it is something to ride light with new tires on this circuit. I was pretty happy with my first flying lap, apart from going through the hairpin, but Sebastian managed to find a few extra tenths, it was a very fast lap. We were both competitive in qualifying and that puts us in a good position for tomorrow. The factory work finally paid off. The big day will be tomorrow, that's where the points will be collected. »
