GP France: Flins supported by Fillon

The soap opera concerning the designation of the site which will host the future French Grand Prix seems set to last. For several months, the Flins site has been accumulating declarations against it. After Christine Boutin, Chantal Jouanno and the environmental associations, it was Christian Blanc who expressed his opposition to the project. Faced with UMP elected officials and activists, the Secretary of State in charge of Development of the capital region revealed, according to Le Parisien, that “ the circuit project will not be done in Flins " but that " if it takes place in Ile-de-France, it will be in Sarcelles (Val-d'Oise) ". The project therefore seemed well buried, after several weeks during which the rating of the circuit in Flins had constantly declined.

But this Friday, the new president of the general council of Yvelines, Alain Schmitz (UMP) declared to AFP that the project was far from being buried, arguing that it is supported in high places. “ I confirm all my support and that of my assembly for this circuit to see the light of day », declared Alain Schmitz, adding that Flins had “ support from the Prime Minister ».

This is therefore a new light on this issue, since the Prime Minister said he was in favor of return from a Formula 1 Grand Prix in France, without specifying the location. François Fillon had, however, conceded that this GP should, initially, be held on an existing circuit. For his part, Alain Schmitz affirms this Friday that Flins is the project in pole position, “ I had confirmation of this this very morning from the Prime Minister's sports advisor. “, he conceded. “ The very afternoon of my election, I received all the mayors, Lagardère, the Federation, Renault sport, the Prime Minister's sports advisor. We are all working in the same direction. » The host site for the future French Grand Prix Formula 1 is therefore still far from being known, especially if the members of the government are not in agreement at this stage of the file.
