If Fernando Alonso found satisfaction yesterday throughout qualifying, Esteban Ocon was unable to cross the threshold of Q1 with his Alpine.

“Whatever position it was, I really enjoyed it. » At the end of one of his laps in Q2 yesterday on the Red Bull Rings, Fernando Alonso admitted the pleasure he took behind the wheel of theAlpine A521 with, at the end of the qualifying session, a 9th place synonymous with potential points today for the Styrian Grand Prix.

 

 

“It was a stressful qualifying with no margin for error due to the tiny gaps and track limits in the last two corners, describes the double world champion. There is always room to do better, but I am very happy to be in the top ten again, finishing ninth. »

Quite the opposite of Esteban Ocon stuck in Q1, without being able to find the same potential in its car after having nevertheless climbed into the top 10 in free practice, including with a 3rd place on Friday afternoon.

“We are not satisfied and we should not have come out of qualifying in Q1, commented the Frenchman. We need to continue to analyze what we can do to improve our performance because it wasn't enough today.

It's been a difficult weekend so far, but we gave our best on our two attacking laps. The weather just wasn't there and we need to figure out why. »

More than questions, the Norman did not hide his concern in view of the race for the Canal + microphone. Salvation could however come from the weather, uncertain for the Grand Prix and which could redistribute the cards.
