It has become a habit since the coronavirus pandemic in spring 2020, the Chinese Grand Prix was removed from the calendar for the next season of Formula 1 in 2023. The Chinese meeting is in fact paying the price for the extremely strict policy in force in this country, the so-called “zero Covid” strategy where very severe confinements have been linked for almost three years.

The event, established in the F1 calendar since 2004, was removed from the program by Liberty Media and the FIA, and could be replaced by another event on the initial dates (the weekend of April 15 and 16, 2023). As it stands, competitors enjoy a four-week long break between the Australian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix.
