The 2022 Russian Grand Prix will ultimately not be replaced. The Formula 1 season calendar definitely remains at 22 rounds for logistical reasons.

Despite strong applications, the FOM, in agreement with the teams, judged that the cost/benefit ratio was not in favor of a replacement event, especially in the context of an already tight schedule.

It was first of all by reaffirming the merits of its decision to sever all ties with Russia that the FOM confirmed, this Wednesday, that the Sochi Grand Prix which was initially scheduled to take place on September 25 will not be replaced. Despite strong replacement applications, such as a second Grand Prix in Singapore on the road to Japan, Qatar or even Jerez in Spain, it was judged, after assessing the commercial value of the race in relation to costs and charges that this would cause, that the game was probably not worth the candle.

Also, given the rules governing freight within the European Union for road transport, the British teams would have had to return to their base, unpack their equipment and repack it to leave. A logistical nightmare that no one would have wanted to avoid.

Therefore, the wisest, most reasonable and most effective decision for everyone was not to add additional burdens at a time when external costs are rising, inflation is soaring and the timetable is already tight. There F1 therefore blocks its counter at 22 for 2022!
