Unsurprisingly, the Miami Grand Prix will take place

While the revolt of certain residents was organized with the aim of having the Miami Grand Prix canceled for “noise pollution”, the judge in charge of investigating the case rejected the appeal filed.

It will obviously take a little more than “noise nuisance” in anticipation to cancel the very first Miami Grand Prix in history. As we told you a few days ago thanks to information from Miami Herald, the residents of Miami Gardens, the city where the Hard Rock Stadium – theater of the race – is located, have taken legal action to deal with the potential noise pollution that the Grand Prix could cause.

The action, brought by former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Betty Ferguson, simply aimed to block this unprecedented event, scheduled for May 6 to 8. The neighborhood's protagonists feared that the noise pollution from the Grand Prix “will cause serious disruption and physical harm to residents of Miami Gardens”, to listen to the most dissenting. Supporting figures, and according to the estimate of an engineering company, the event would generate a noise equivalent to 97 decibels, in houses located within a radius of 4 kilometers around the stadium, similar to the din of 'a "chain saw".

Judge Alan Fine's decision was expected during the week and it finally came down this Wednesday. After specifying that he could not in any case schedule a preliminary injunction hearing before the start of the event, the magistrate above all estimated that “the evidence put forward so far regarding potential hearing loss is very speculative in my (his) opinion. They are not based on actual information relating to road noise. Formula 1, and the most recent affidavit, dating from last night, does not take into account the south wall (a noise barrier which was put in place at the circuit, editor's note).” If the 2022 Miami Grand Prix will indeed take place, we can easily imagine that local residents will not stop there and that new legal action will be taken.
