After a first practice session disrupted by rain in Great Britain, the drivers were finally able to drive on a dry track during Free Practice 2. At the end of these EL2, it was Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) who achieved the best time in 1'28″942.

The Spaniard was the fastest on soft tires, in a very studious session for all the teams to make up for the time lost during FP1. The Scuderia driver narrowly beat two Britons on their soil: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finished 2nd (+0″163), showing the beginnings of the Mercedes’ potential. The German team has made several changes to Silverstone and hopes to keep pace with the Ferraris and Red Bull.

Third, Lando Norris (McLaren) failed less than two tenths from the best time (+0″176). The English driver experienced a small mishap in the pits with his mechanics. The rear jack gave way, leaving the McLaren on the ground…

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) took 4th place in these tests (+0″207) despite some concerns about his car. The Dutchman suspected a strange noise in his RB18 on the track. The world champion is ahead of his rival at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc (5th, +0″462). With a Alpine evolved, Fernando Alonso took the 6th time (+0″753), even if the French car was the victim of porpoising during this second practice session. The Spaniard is ahead of the second Red Bull, that of Sergio Pérez (7th, +0″811).

No on-track incidents were reported on the Silverstone track. In the second part of the table, we find in particular Alexander albon (13th, +1″321). There Williams of the Thai, all covered in flow-screws on its new pontoons, gave an astonishing image during these tests.

Sebastian Vettel (15th, +1″393) encountered a problem at the end of the session. The floor of theAston Martin was damaged and the session was cut short for the German. Pierre Gasly (18th, +1″568) was also in difficulty. The Frenchman complained at length about a general lack of grip with his Alpha Tauri.
