2010 grid: progress

After the information at the start of the week (purchase of Brawn GP by Mercedes, signing of Button with McLaren, Glock with Manor, etc.), the starting grid for the 2010 Formula 1 season is becoming somewhat clearer. Places remain to be taken, for a still significant number of contenders.

2010 grid: progress

Mercedes GP
One certainty: the two drivers who drove this year for Brawn GP, now Mercedes GP, are no longer there: Jenson Button at McLaren, Rubens Barrichello at Williams. Nico Rosberg should arrive at the Brackley team. However, a cutting-edge pilot is missing to make the future silver arrows shine. Kimi Räikkönen, who declared his wish to put the F1 in parentheses in 2010, could be a serious candidate. But when it comes to salary, the Finn is even more demanding than Jenson Button was. Especially since the WRC is now another avenue for Iceman to explore. Mercedes wanting a German crew, Nick Heidfeld and Adrian Sutil are neck and neck to support Nico Rosberg. The former BMW-Saubert driver would hold the rope.

Red Bull
No doubt : Mark Webber et Sebastian Vettel were confirmed last summer for next season. The two drivers have won six victories between them this season.

McLaren
Lewis Hamilton now knows his future teammate. If Nico Rosberg and Kimi Räikkönen had been mentioned to join the Woking team, it was ultimately Jenson Button, world champion this season, who will team up with his predecessor on the prize list. The 100% British pair will be eagerly awaited in 2010.

Ferrari
No ambiguity: Fernando Alonso et Felipe Massa will be teammates in 2010. They even appeared side by side last weekend, for the Ferrari Days final in Valencia.

Sauber-Qadbak
The team from which BMW withdrew still does not know what its future will hold. Although the stable ofHinwil found an investor (Qadbak), the withdrawal of Toyota of F1 did not automatically cause the repositioning of Sauber in 13th and last position on the 2010 starting grid. Peter Sauber's team cannot therefore guarantee anything to potential drivers.

Williams
The team has formalized its driver duo for 2010. Nico Rosberg changes team, Kazuki Nakajima is ousted. As a replacement, the Grove team called on the veteran of the field, Rubens Barrichello. The Brazilian will team up with Nico Hulkenberg, third driver at Williams this season and GP2 Series champion in September.

Renault
Fernando Alonso left for Ferrari, Renault was quick to formalize the arrival of Robert Kubica. Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion in 2005, the Pole was trained at the diamond school. His teammate is not known. Romain Grosjean could keep his seat but Franck Montagny is also in the running. On the other hand, the Timo Glock track is deactivated, the German driver having been made official in another team.

Force India
There are many avenues for one of the most modest teams on the current grid. Vitantonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil were neither confirmed nor ruled out. If the German has agreed to extend for one season, he prefers to remain attentive to more interesting offers (Mercedes GP) before signing. On the other hand, other names appear among the contenders for 2011, such as Nelson Piquet Jr, Pedro de la Rosa or Paul di Resta.

Toro Rosso
Sébastien Buemi has been confirmed in his position for a second season at sister team Red Bull, just as Jaime Alguersuari should be.

Campos Meta
Of the four new teams, it is the first to have formalized a driver, and not the least. The Spanish team will start with Bruno senna, nephew of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna. In the role of the experienced driver, the name of Pedro de la Rosa came up insistently but a financial problem caused the affair to fail. The young drivers, seen this season in GP2, Vitaly Petrov and Pastor Maldonado, have, for many weeks, been expected to be part of the Campos adventure.

USF1
According to Ken Anderson in the columns of AUTOhebdo, the team has a list of around a dozen names. Pedro de la Rosa is at the top of the list, in which we also find Jacques Villeneuve, Franck Montagny?

Manor Motorsports
The English team has formalized the name of the second driver who joins one of the four new teams. Timo Glock, a former Toyota driver, joins the British team to develop a car which will face tough competition. Lucas di Grassi, third Renault driver, could join him, as could Nelson Piquet Jr.

Lotus F1
The Malaysian team has, according to its founder Tony Fernandes, signed its first driver but has not yet communicated his name. Until then, Jarno Trulli seemed best placed to join the team of Mike Gascoyne, technical director of Lotus F1 Racing.
